Handmade mosaic mirrors inspired by Talavera tile art are a beautiful way to add a touch of Mexican culture and charm to your home decor. Talavera tiles are known for their colorful, hand-painted designs, which are influenced by indigenous and Spanish ceramic art.
The term, "Talavera" refers to an artistic style from Mexico, that originated in the early 19th century. Named after Talavera de la Reina, the town in Mexico where this variety of pottery was popularized. The tiles used for these mirrors is primarily made with a terracotta type of material, then are hand painted with Southwest inspired colors, designs and images. Today, Mexican earthenware and pottery that features this colorful decoration with an opaque white glaze, is produced principally in Puebla, Mexico. In 2019, Talavera art was included in the UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Each of our mirrors is crafted by hand in our workshop. This "one at a time" approach gives each mirror its uniqueness and using only high-quality components adds to the value of each mirror. The tiles are sourced from Mexican craftsmen, hand assembled, and hand detailed. Framing is typically Curley Maple or American Walnut and the backing board is 1/4" sanded plywood. Hanging hardware for all mirrors is included and already installed - ready to hang!
Handcrafted in our Ohio workshop, our York Woodwork mosaics are inspired by desert art of the American southwest. Transform your home or office space with these unique Talavera tile mosaic mirrors.
